Product Description The Giro Hex Mountain Bike Helmet is constructed with in-mold technology that fuses a tough outer microshell to the helmet's EPS foam liner. The fusion process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, making the helmet lighter, cooler and tougher. The Hex utilizes Giro's Roc Loc 4 system, which includes adjustments for fit tensioning and helmet positioning, plus a supple rubber over-molded fit belt for both comfort and stability. This Giro helmet features 21 vents that allow cool, fresh air in and stale, warm air out. The Giro Hex also features a P.O.V. (Point Of View) adjustable visor that is anchored by a patented internal clutch, which allows 15-degrees of vertical adjustment and prevents the visor from rattling and coming loose over rough terrain. The Hex mountain helmet comes in three Super Fit sizes, which combine human scale factor data with handcrafted headforms and rider feedback for ultimate comfort. Giro's Hex helmet is a lightweight 310 grams, and complies with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets. Helmet Tips--You Should Always... - Wear a helmet when you ride
- Wear your helmet low in the front to protect the forehead
- Fasten your buckle and tighten your chin strap
- Check your adjustments every time you wear your helmet
- Inspect your helmet regularly for signs of wear or damage
- Wear a helmet designed for your activity
About Giro Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a helmet that was better looking than traditional designs while offering a superior fit and still met the industry's toughest safety standards. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets. Since then, Giro has advanced its helmets, many of which have set the standards for styling, function, and innovation for progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Young-bloods and old-timers; hard-cores, heshers, and hipsters; rookies, experts, and a few regular Joes too--in fact, pretty much anyone that appreciates superior fit and function, cutting edge styling, and the very best ideas you get in a helmet.
Product Description The Hex combines a muscular, progressive style with the versatility and integrity you want for serious trail riding. It's a great choice for price-conscious riders looking for a rugged all-mountain helmet with top-level features. | Customer Reviews: This will do for now January 18, 2007 Ombligo (San Diego, CA USA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Pros:
Air ventilation is truly excellent, fit is snug and comfortable, feels very light, the visor does not chatter in the wind, the helmet's design is fairly stylish.
Cons:
The straps often need to be pushed away from the back of my ears, the rubber part of "overmolded arm" on the RocLoc system inside the helmet interferes with the back tips of my glasses.
The helmet is used mainly for my daily commute. The RocLoc system makes the helmet fit well but at the expense of not being able to wear sunglasses comfortably. I wanted to try the Giro brand after I wore out my excellent Bell X-Ray helmet. When this Giro Hex wears out I will replace it with a new Bell X-Ray.
Crashed it and it did it's job well... August 13, 2007 Mr. W. D. Holder (Seattle, WA USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm sitting here having just ordered my second Gyro Hex helmet. I'm typing with a broken bone in my elbow and a cracked rib, but thankfully a fully intact skull...
Living in Seattle we have a certain amount of rain, this summer slightly less so. So a couple of weeks ago on my way into work I wasn't paying proper attention for a rainy Monday morning ride, hit a slippery patch on a corner at 15-20mph, my bike flipped and my 190lb self ended up plummeting head (and elbow) first into the asphalt...
I have never been so glad of a helmet in all of my life; it totally absorbed the impact (all be it by cracking into four parts, as expected). The actual structure of the helmet stayed together and gave my head all of the protection it needed as I slid along... The best 90 bucks I have spent all year
Initially I was going to buy a cheaper model as in 35 years of cycling I've never really had any need for the protection, but I'm glad that Matt black styling convinced me to pay the extra for a helmet which really did it's job...
As well as the protection, I found this helmet nice and cool and very comfortable to wear on a 16 mile daily commute (for the 6 months until I broke it...)
We have a winner! February 16, 2008 Alan Ault (Palm Desert, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's nice to be able to find items like this at about half the retail price offered in most bicycle shops. After testing most helmets I found the HEX the most comfortable. I recommend this helmet over many more expensive models as it offers very adequate protection. It won't however save your ankle!
Good helmet.... January 1, 2010 Richard Tan (Singapore) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good helmet which I bought for my boy, he likes it and comment it to be vey cooling in our hot Singapore climate.
Good quality construction too.
Looks cool, feels cool, fits great -- what more do you want? January 19, 2009 xcu (Sherman Oaks, CA) Great Helmet! I like the design with all the angles and I like the fact the helmet doesnt stick out too much in the back. It's about as compact as a helmet can be and still protect you. Is light and vents well. Not too dorky looking. Buy the right size for you and it fits great. And, of course, NEVER buy a "universal" one-size-fits-all helmet -- that really means it won't fit (they really should be outlawed because they won't provide as good of protection.) This is a really good helmet. I'm going to buy another, in case this one ever gets tested (crash!).
