Product Description
Nalgene containers have stood up to some of the worlds most extreme conditions. Small potatoes compared to small children. The new Nalgene Grip'n Gulp is tough enough to survive being thrown form a moving minivan, spill proof enough to compel parents to blame the rug stains on the dog, and odor proof enough to allow leftover milk to go undetected under the couch for months. Most importantly, its a great way for little kids to reach new heights.

This review is for those with kids that are beyond the sippy cup years. I have looked for water bottles for my preschooler and kindergartener's lunch bag for the past five months and I think I finally found the perfect water bottle. I couldn't find a water bottle that was bpa free and less than 12 oz. I saw this on the internet and thought it would be a good size but the lid was a problem since both my kids were no longer toddlers and it needed to go into a lunchbox. After a little bit of research on the Nalgene website, I discovered that Nalgene made their various bottle caps to fit all the different bottle sizes. I didn't want the sippy lid, but I wanted the bottle so I purchased the "atb" lid (sports cap) separately on the Nalgene website. The cap is great because there is a cover for the mouth piece, which you don't find in many water bottles, except for the Sigg brands. The atb lid could potentially get loose because it is not as rigid as other sports cap, but I haven't had a leak in her lunchbox yet. I also purchased a Klean Kanteen 12 oz bottle with the sports cap and that has worked out really well, we use both interchangeably. However, if you don't like to drink out of a metal container and want bpa free, this Nalgene bottle is great for little kids. You can bypass what I did and buy the 12 oz with a sports lid, but I found shipping charges astronomical, depending on the websites. My preschooler has been using his sippy lid (without the stopper ) at home --no more juice spills or sticky floors!-- and the sports cap for school/camp.
I hope this helps those mom looking for the "perfect" water bottle.
UPDATE 08/19/2009: Since writing this review, I've noticed on occasion my daughter's water bottle leaks a little when the top cap came loose from jostling in her lunch box. As long as the mouthpiece cover stays on, there has not been any other leaks. My kids have dropped their water bottles a few times on the asphalt and it didn't crack.

I love this little water bottle, except one thing . . . its actually too hard for my toddler to drink out of. It has never leaked, hasn't broken in the several hundred throws, and its BPA free. But my 19 month old can't drink from it. I will keep it for him until he is older.

I have to say, the NALGENE Tritan Grip-N-Gulp BPA-Free Water Bottle is THE BEST sippy cup we have ever used! As a previous reviewer stated, these sippys DO NOT leak, except for a few drops that are already in the spout, when shaken. Also, these cups hold-up WONDERFULLY in the dishwasher, even over many years, being used on a constant daily basis. My 7-year old daughter used the "old" Nalgene sippys for many years, and now that they have come out with the BPA-Free versions, I have purchased a dozen "new" plastic sippys, and will be getting rid of all my old plastic sippys and bottles, especially now that my baby daughter wants to use the same kind of cup as Big Sister. :) These are so much more reasonably priced than the stainless steel sippys... which I found were $14+ each, and I love that the Nalgenes only have one valve to clean! If the new sippys are as spill-free and easy to clean as the old ones, I'll really love them, too! My daughters are excited for the new colors, as well... green and purple in addition to the original pink and blue colors.

My daughter likes the bright pink color. I like the reassurance of seeing "BPA free" indented on the bottom, along with "Made in the USA." The opening is wide enough to fit a bottle brush in - easy cleaning, and ice cubes.
